During a Tuesday segment on Morning Joe, Willie Geist noted that J.D. Vance is doing much more right now than just defending comments from Donald Trump.
When Trump tapped the Ohio Senator to be his Vice President, he didn't do so because he thought he'd be a capable running mate. Vance is on the Republican ticket because he's going to be willing to do and say everything that Trump asks him to.
Part of his duties is making up excuses for Trump's behavior. And even on Fox News, Vance is being asked about Trump's claims about the 'enemy within' and what he'll do to those he sees as opponents.
Joe Scarborough began by saying, "He keeps saying Democrats are the enemy within! Nancy Pelosi is the enemy within... Adam Schiff is the enemy from within. And so he says that people on the left are the enemy from within. So he knows... exactly what Donald Trump is talking about."
The host continued, "When you say, 'Well, people love Donald Trump because he's unfiltered and he speaks from the heart,' so when he tells you he's going to use the military against his political opponents, J.D. Vance just told America: 'This guy means it!"
Geist then jumped in:
Poor J.D. Vance, who obviously again is the beta in this relationship and has to say what he has to say to get through the interview and protect his guy," he said. "He's making excuses, he's deflecting, he's talking suddenly about Nancy Pelosi trading stocks.
