During an appearance on Fox's The Five on Wednesday, Donald Trump claimed that the crowd went crazy for him at last week's debate, even though there was no audience.
The GOP has been keeping Trump off the campaign trail over the last few weeks, seemingly worried about what he might say next. One of the ways Republicans look to protect Trump is by putting him in environments where he is protected, like Conservative news channels.
Trump appeared on a pre-taped episode of The Five on Wednesday where the hosts were sure to ask him softball questions and fawn over him. Still, they couldn't prevent Trump from making a ridiculous claim.
The former President was complaining about the fact-checking feature of the debate. He was fact-checked multiple times while his opponent, Harris was not. A CNN study would later find that Harris made one false claim while Trump made a whopping 33.
Trump complained to Fox:
"And they didn’t correct her once. And they corrected me, everything I said, practically. I think nine times or 11 times. And the audience was absolutely– they went crazy."
Of course the crowd didn't go absolutely crazy because there was no crowd there. Trump would later go on to claim that the debate was successful because of the strong ratings. "You have to do well," he said, "you can't do badly."
