The town of Springfield, Ohio has been under a national microscope in the wake of false rumors that Haitian migrants were stealing and eating domesticated pets.
Ohio Senator and historically unpopular GOP VP candidate JD Vance said immigrants were "overburdening" Springfield's services and housing. Vance's statements caused false stories to circulate on social media, including in his own tweets.
The rumor has been fully debunked by the Springfield City Manager, as quoted by ABC's David Muir after Donald Trump screamed "They're eating the dogs!" during the presidential debate.
The City Manager's statement also refuted rumors that immigrants were involved in "illegal activities such as squatting or littering" or "deliberately disrupting traffic."
But in MAGA world, anything Trump says is the gospel truth and he can never be wrong, so they're doubling down on backing him up. And in typical MAGA fashion, someone in the Trump cult decided to act out violently by calling in a bomb threat to Springfield's City Hall on Thursday morning.
"As a precautionary measure, the building has been evacuated, and authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation," the statement reads. "Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our employees and residents. We are working to address this situation as swiftly as possible."
There is a direct line from Trump's words on the debate stage to the actions in Springfield.
The City Hall will remain closed while Springfield Police investigate. Police are asking for anyone with information to contact them.
