On Thursday, a federal judge in New York threatened to hold disgraced former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani in contempt after he missed a court-imposed deadline for surrendering his assets to two Georgia election workers he defamed.
Giuliani, the former NYC Mayor who parlayed 9/11 into a political career, was ordered to turn over all of the seized property to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who won a $148 million defamation verdict against him last year after Giuliani falsely accused them of committing election fraud in the 2020 election.
Last month, U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Liman ordered Giuliani to provide the court with a lengthy property list within seven days. In addition to the Mercedes and other personal property, Giuliani was required to give up his Upper East Side apartment, sports memorabilia, and a $2 million legal claim for unpaid attorney's fees from the Trump 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Freeman and Moss have accused Giuliani of resisting their collection efforts by hiding his personal property. Giuliani’s lawyers claimed the mother and daughter, who were forced into hiding after receiving death threats thanks to Giuliani, had "failed to provide adequate information about how and where" to deliver the seized assets.
In court on Thursday, Judge Liman said Giuliani will face contempt sanctions if he fails to hand over the property by November 14th. Freeman and Moss have already been able to access the New York apartment, and on Thursday their lawyer indicated the process to transfer the title is underway.
