President Joe Biden honored former President Jimmy Carter ahead of his 100th birthday on Tuesday with an appearance on CBS' Sunday Morning.
"Mr. President, you've always been a moral force for our nation and the world. I recognized that as a young senator," President Biden said, adding, "That's why I supported you so early."
President Biden characterized President Carter as "one of the most influential statesmen in our history," highlighting his long history of humanitarian efforts after leaving the White House. President Carter also asked President Biden to deliver his eulogy when the time comes.
"Even after you left office, the moral clarity you showed throughout your career showed through again in your commitment through the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity – resolving conflicts, advancing democracy, preventing disease, and so much more," President Biden said.
"Put simply, Mr. President, I admire you so darn much," he added.
President Biden and President Carter will now share a legacy of being the most beloved one-term Democratic Presidents. Carter earned much more praise after he left the White House and only later received his much-deserved for the work he did while in office.
The ailing former President has been in hospice in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, for a year as he lives with the final stages of brain cancer and other age-related ailments. But his grandson, Jason Carter, has been updating the public and said that President Carter was in "good spirits" and wanted to not only reach his 100th birthday but also live long enough to cast the last vote of his life for Vice President Kamala Harris.
