WATCH: New Film "The Apprentice" Showcases Roy Cohn's Control Over Trump

A new biopic detailing Donald Trump's relationship with power lawyer/puppetmaster Roy Cohn is looking to raise money via Kickstarter after Trump's campaign sought to suppress its release.

Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, "The Apprentice" is said to be a fully unflattering portrait of how easily Cohn manipulated Trump and molded him in his own image as he rose to more prominence on the New York City social scene.

A scene from the film was shared on social media on Tuesday showing actor Jeremy Strong, as Cohn, coaching Sebastian Stan's Trump on how to speak to a reporter on a car phone.

As Cohn hands Trump the phone to begin the interview, the lawyer is seen encouraging Trump to embellish his ideas and supply better quotes for the journalist over the phone.

The movie is struggling for distribution thanks to several controversial scenes, particularly one in which Trump rapes his then-wife Ivana, played by Maria Bakalova.

Trump's response was of course to threaten legal action against the filmmakers saying in a statement, “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked.”

In her 1990 divorce deposition, Ivana Trump described a similar assault, initially describing it as rape. She would later walk back the claim in a 1993 statement when she said, “On one occasion during 1989, [Donald] and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage. As a woman I felt violated … I referred to this as rape, but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense.”
