The Editorial boards of major newspapers always offer endorsements of presidential candidates ahead of Election Day, but this year several of them have declined to do so out of what looks like fear of retribution from Donald Trump and his rabid MAGA base.
Bending to fascism ahead of a presumed dictatorship is the opposite of what any American should be doing, but when the press is refusing to make the glaring distinctions between convicted felon Donald Trump and sitting Vice President Kamala Harris, it's not only irresponsible but potentially deadly as well.
Both the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post's Editorial Boards wrote endorsements for Vice President Harris. Each of their owners, who are rich Trump-backing billionaires, killed the editorials. As a result, the papers are seeing massive subscription cancelations and boycotts, as well as resignations from editors and contributors alike.
The papers’ leaders have made it clear that they either want Trump because of his promises to not raise their taxes or that they're somehow worried about his MAGA base, who don't read anything other than the Chryon on Fox News.
Twitter users slammed the Post, which is owned by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and had run presidential endorsements in the past. "Why wouldn't we run an endorsement?" Bezos responded when asked about it in 2016. Aside from canceling their WaPo subscriptions and trending "Boycott WaPo" on Twitter, users were also calling for a full boycott of Amazon as well.
MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart called out the cowardly owners of those papers and others on Sunday who refuse to tell the truth about the dangers of Trumpism.
