On Thursday's broadcast, the panel on Morning Joe expressed surprise and happiness that the Economist's editorial board is backing Kamala Harris.

There has long been a myth, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary, that Republicans are better equipped to handle the economy. And despite his litany of business failures, polled voters will often say they trust Donald Trump to handle the economy.
Part of that myth-making comes from financial publications, so the MSNBC hosts felt that the Economist's backing was important for Harris.
Andrew Ross Sorkin, who hosts Squawk Box on CNBC, began by noting that, "This is not considered some liberal bastion or anything." Mika Brzezinski followed up his comments saying, "I did not see this coming."
In the piece, The Economist board notes that a Donald Trump presidency would create an unacceptable risk. Brzezinski added, "That's powerful. The impact of a Trump presidency, the disastrous consequences of a Trump presidency on our allies and on the world economy."
Sorkin then noted that while this endorsement may come as a surprise to some, it did not come as a surprise to him. He continued, "This, again, goes back to the math. Currently, no matter how you do the math, it is hard to justify Trump on economic policies."
