During a weekend appearance on News Nation, Lara Trump attempted to defend her music career.
Being a member of the Trump family offers the ability to utilize the name in non-political platforms. Lara Trump, the wife of Eric, has long attempted to start a career in music. It has been controversial at times. After she performed a cover to Tom Petty's song, I Won't Back Down, the family of the musician responded in a statement that read:
"Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind. Both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate. He liked to bring people together… Concurrently, we have issued an official cease and desist notice to the Trump campaign."
Lara Trump has also been criticized for her latest single, Hero, which uses autotuning. When asked about her music career by Chris Stirewalt, she responded:
"All of those, Chris, anything I’ve done in a musical sense, has all been prior to my role in the RNC. The timing of things, of course, [is] very confident that people are trying to knock me for this. I’ve been very clear about what my job is. It is to win this election in 2024 for Donald Trump and Republicans all the way down the ticket. I assume that they can’t knock me for fundraising as the co-chair of the RNC or for anything else that we’ve done."
