WATCH: Kamala Harris Blasts Food Companies Who Are Price Gouging

While previewing her economic plan, Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris explained how she plans to take down price-gouging food companies.

Inflation has been an uncomfortable part of daily life since the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, both candidates are regularly discussing it, as it will be very important to voters this fall.

Donald Trump frequently talked about bringing prices down, but his tactics of higher tariffs and exiling migrants who help pick the country's food would only make prices go up. Harris introduced her more coherent plan on Twitter, writing

"When I am President, it will be a day one priority to bring down prices. I’ll take on big corporations that engage in illegal price gouging and corporate landlords that unfairly raise rents on working families."

Harris continued, "We will help the food industry become more competitive because I believe competition is the lifeblood of our economy. More competition means lower prices for you and your families."

The Vice President also talked about price gouging during a recent speech in North Carolina, telling rally-goers:

"I will work to pass the first-ever federal ban on price gouging on food. My plan will include new penalties for opportunistic companies that exploit crises and break the rules, and we will support smaller food businesses that are trying to play by the rules and get ahead."
