WATCH: Joe Biden Says He'll Miss Sparring With Mitch McConnell

Mitch McConnell has been in charge of the Republicans in the Senate since January of 2017. Now 82 years old, the Kentucky Senator has seemingly decided that he's its time for him to step down from leadership.

Part of the reason for the Senator's departure was the takeover of the GOP by Donald Trump and lawmakers similar to him.  McConnell said to reporters, "Believe me, I know the politics within my party at this particular time. I have many faults. Misunderstanding politics is not one of them.”

Joe Biden has known McConnell for quite a long time. The two men have worked together in the Senate since 1985 when McConnell was first elected.

The two men also worked closely together when Biden was Vice President and now that he is the President. So when Biden was asked about the retirement he responded:

"He and I have trust, we’ve got a great relationship, we fought like hell but he never, never, never misrepresented anything. I’m sorry to hear he’s stepping down."
