WATCH: Draft-Dodging Trump Accepts a Purple Heart From Vietnam Veteran

During a town hall event in Fayetteville, North Carolina, a Vietnam War veteran gave Donald Trump the Purple Heart he was awarded after being wounded in combat.

Donald Trump was of age to go off and fight in the war, but a local was able to prescribe him with bone spurs and get him a deferment. And despite the fact that Trump has always often said offensive things about those who serve our country, he nonetheless has support from people who have spent time in the military.

Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna told Trump during the North Carolina event:

"I wanted to read this to the crowd. He had actually written a letter to you after you’d been shot in Pennsylvania. ‘Dear President Trump, watching you during the Butler rally, and you getting back up, both my wife and I gave a sigh of relief as well as a few tears. I would be honored if you would accept this small token I received as a young marine in Vietnam. My wife and I both thought it appropriate. God bless you, your family, and the United States of America. Sincerely, Dwight.'"

The man appeared on stage and handed Trump an envelope. Luna then said, "For those of you who may not know, Dwight had given President Trump his Purple Heart."

The man then explained, "“I couldn’t think of anybody more deserving of a Purple Heart."
