Just three days after she became the Democrats' nominee for President, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered the keynote address on Wednesday to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s 2024 Grand Boulé in Indianapolis, igniting the crowd with her energy and enthusiasm for the country's future.
Her appearance was scheduled long before President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed her for the job, but now her speech carried even more weight as she promised the more than 6000 Sorors who packed the Indiana Convention Center.
Indiana has been a deep Red state for the last 16 years, but VP Harris is out to change that.
Judging from the reaction from the crowd, Indiana could very well be in play in November.
After praising President Joe Biden for his legacy and service to the United States, the Vice President told the crowd “We are not playing around” and asked for their help in electing her as his successor in November.
“In this moment, I believe we face a choice between two different visions for our nation," VP Harris said. "One focused on the future, the other focused on the past.
“And with your support, I am fighting for our nation’s future.”
As Black voters are mobilizing, there is still an undercurrent of fear that American voters won't support a Black woman for President. But the record amount of money raised for her campaign, combined with the ever-growing list of endorsements, should be enough to silence the nay-sayers.
"When we fight, we win!" she said in closing.
