During a panel discussion on Friday night, a group of CNN commentators contrasted Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff against Donald Trump's spouse, Melania.
A presidential candidate's spouse can help generate votes, which becomes even more important in a close race. With Donald Trump running a third time, Melania Trump has never seemed less interested in helping her husband. The same can't be said for Harris' husband.
Emhoff was a successful entertainment lawyer and is more than comfortable speaking with supporters or journalists. Semafor's Kadia Goba reported, "Gen Z also can't get enough of Doug Emhoff. Several pictures of him right by her side have surfaced, and in being such a 'good wife guy,' Doug Emhoff has become the cool model, the first male White House spouse."
Jeff Mason from Reuters then weighed in, "And when he comes to the White House correspondents' dinner or the parties or goes out for dinner with others in D.C. while she's working, that is a voice about this is who she is. This is my wife. She's a person."
Alayna Treene then drew the obvious comparison of Emhoff being by Harris's side, while Melania is seldom seen, saying, "You see him all the time. You're seeing him campaigning. You're seeing him try to be that support system for the vice president. We've rarely seen the former First Lady Melania Trump out this cycle. She has made it a point not to appear that much on the trail."
