During Sunday morning's broadcast of ABC's This Week, hosts Martha Raddatz and George Stephanopoulos hit back at J.D. Vance's claims that Joe Biden inspired the Trump assassination attempt.
Just moments after Donald Trump was whisked away by Secret Service following an assassination attempt, Republicans were quick to politicize the matter and blame Democrats.
J.D. Vance, one of the top contenders for Trump's running mate, took to Twitter to blame Joe Biden, writing, "The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination."
After reading the message, Raddatz began, "There is no evidence of that. We do not know the motive of that shooter at this point."
Stephanopoulos jumped in, "Of course, President Trump and his supporters have contributed to this violent rhetoric as well."
Raddatz closed the segment by saying:
"Absolutely. We were just looking back this morning at some of the things that former President Trump has said. And you have heard it from supporters as well. And let's remember January 6. In so many ways for the campaign, January 6 will probably be in the background after yesterday's event."
