VP Harris Reiterates the Administration's Commitment to Women's Health Issues

Two years ago, in June 2022, Vice President Kamala Harris announced the Biden-Harris Administration’s Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis, an effort to combat maternal mortality and morbidity.

At a time when the GOP is intent on implementing Project2025 to fully control both women and the population, the Biden-Harris administration is focused on improving the overall experience of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care for all women in the United States.

Since the Blueprint was released, the Biden-Harris Administration has made significant strides in improving maternal health for women across the country. This week, the Vice President reiterated the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to supporting women's health and bodily autonomy.

VP Harris announced some of the Blueprint’s key accomplishments while speaking to more than 20,000 women in Dallas, TX, on Wednesday at the 71st National Boulé for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.—the world’s oldest college-based sorority founded by African-American women.

“President Biden and I are fully committed to addressing a maternal health crisis in which women across America – disproportionately Black women, Native women, and women in rural communities – are dying before, during, and after childbirth at higher rates than in any other developed nation.

"That is why I called on states to extend Medicaid postpartum coverage from two months to 12 months – with 46 states taking action – and why we launched the White House Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis, an unprecedented whole-of-government strategy to improving maternal care,” said Vice President Harris.

“Today, we are building on this critical work by proposing new policies that will strengthen maternal health and increase access to high-quality care for millions of women and children throughout the country.”
