Trump has been campaigning about his tariff plan for months now despite having several people explain to him that it would be a tax increase on Americans. In the Post article, people from companies like Columbia, Auto Zone and Black & Decker saying the tariffs would force them to raise prices.
Tim Walz was in Pennsylvania campaigning and first hit Trump for his garbage truck stunt yesterday. A clip shared widely on social media showed Trump struggling to get into the vehicle, nearly falling down. The Democrat remarked, "This dude's nearly 80 years old. He damn near killed himself getting into a garbage truck."
The candidate then mocked Trump's business acumen, by saying:
"You would think over 80 years, you would understand how a tariff works. Smarter people than Donald Trump, which is a good chunk of folks, CEOs of companies like Black & Decker, AutoZone, and Columbia have gone on the record to say, if Donald Trump goes forward with his plan, they will simply have to raise prices and pass it on to you. Donald Trump [is] saying China will pay for those tariffs the same way Mexico paid for the wall. It's not gonna happen.
