Report: Joe Biden Could Drop Out as Soon as This Weekend

According to Axios, Joe Biden could announce the end of his candidacy as soon as this weekend.

Since his first debate against Donald Trump, President Biden has faced a crush of questions about his mental fitness for office. Despite his success in the White House, voters are unsure if he could fulfill another term.

Wednesday was a bad day for the President as one poll showed that 2/3s of Democrats want him to drop out. In addition, the President contracted COVID-19 and news broke that Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jefferies had talked to him about stepping down.

While he publicly remains defiant, Axios' Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen write, "Several top Democrats privately tell us the rising pressure of party congressional leaders and close friends will persuade President Biden to decide to drop out of the presidential race as soon as this weekend."

A source close to Biden also says that staying in the race could damage the President's legacy, "His choice is to be one of history's heroes, or to be sure of the fact that there'll never be a Biden presidential library. I pray that he does the right thing. He's headed that way."

The decision for Biden is a delicate one as he is well liked within his party. It is likely that he will be an important campaign surrogate if he is to step down.
