In a newly revealed excerpt from her upcoming book, Melania Trump calls for abortion rights for women with no government intervention.
Abortion rights are one of the biggest issues of the 2024 election. Donald Trump made it so by placing Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court. Those justices then achieved the long-time Republican goal of overturning Roe vs. Wade.
Trump is very uncomfortable talking about abortion rights because he knows the issue hurts him. His wife doesn't seem to have the same reservations. In an excerpt from her new book, Melania Trump writes:
"It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government."
Trump continued, "Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes."
The excerpt, first obtained by The Guardian, ends, "Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life."
