Imagine if ComicCon was streamed as a three-hour fundraiser packed with more celebrities than your average convention center could hold.
You'd have Geeks & Nerds for Harris, which streamed Tuesday night and raised just over half a million dollars for Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz thanks to the seemingly endless list of self-avowed celebrity nerds and geeks who joined forces.
"Geeks and Nerds for Harris Walz is a diverse group of Americans dedicated to electing Kamala Harris and Democrats down-ballot in November 2024," the group's mission statement says.
And by forces, we mean Mark Hamill was there for the Star Wars nerds, while there was also plenty of representation from the Star Trek universe as well.
Led by OG Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, the event included the casts of Supernatural (which brought out the fanboy in New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker) and The Boys, as well as actors Jon Cryer, Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, George Takei, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, and Yvette Nicole Brown, among others.
"It’s a new time, and everybody is ready to move forward from all this old crap I’m tired of rehashing," Carter told Deadline. "I’ve marched and I’ve marched and I’ve marched, and here we are again, and I’m tired of it. You know, I am fighting the fight, fighting the same things over and over again, something’s got to give."
Sexy Liberal Network podcast hosts John Fugelsang and Hal Sparks joined other political comedians and politicians, such as Mystery Science Theatre 3000's Frank Conniff.
The online fandom live-tweeting and watching the event was as joyful as its participants.
