Hometown Lexington Paper Absolutely Buries Mitch McConnell

Mitch McConnell has been one of the most important figures in Republican politics for decades. Even when Donald Trump was in office, it was the Senate Majority Leader who was believed to be the one actually pulling the strings.

Following the 2021 Insurrection, McConnell came out against the former President and his supporters. He decided against voting to convince Trump on impeachment charges which would have prevented him from ever running from office again.

The Lexington Herald-Leader recently asked John David Dyche to write a pre-obituary for McConnell. Instead, Dyche, who was a supporter of McConnell up until 2016, wrote a scathing op-ed. The author felt that it wouldn't have been fair to save the piece and wanted to show McConnell how he felt before then.

The political commentator wrote that he was at one time happy with McConnell, "however, since Trump’s rise and takeover of the Republican Party, McConnell’s vaunted political acumen has failed him at critical times."

Dyche also wrote in his piece that McConnell has become an, "amoral, purely transactional collaborator in the normalization of Trump’s cruel, proto-fascist, venal, and vulgar demagoguery will have even worse and longer lasting destructive consequences for our constitutional democracy."
