The Harris campaign was quick today to seize on J.D. Vance's negative comments about Donald Trump in 2020.
On Friday, the Washington Post revealed private Twitter messages from Trump's running mate where Vance discussed Trump's failure to reach his economic goals.
The Post's Peter Jamison reported that Vance had written to an unknown person, "Trump has just so thoroughly failed to deliver on his economic populism (excepting a disjointed China policy)." Vance also wrote, "I think Trump will probably lose."
Vance's people were quick to attempt damage control, with spokesperson William Martin responding by saying the words weren't a criticism of Trump but of "establishment Republicans who thwarted much of Trump’s populist economic agenda to increase tariffs and boost domestic manufacturing in Congress."
That response, though, did not stop Kamala Harris' people from pointing out the comments from the Ohio Senator. Harris' Director of Rapid Response, Ammar Moussa wrote in a statement:
"You don’t have to take it from us, conservative economists, or Mitch McConnell – JD Vance himself was crystal clear: Donald Trump 'thoroughly failed,’ to deliver on his economic promises, and is only looking out for himself and his rich donors, not the American people."
