Ex: Rep. Fred Upton Becomes the Latest Prominent Republican to Back Kamala Harris

Fred Upton, a Republican who served in the United States House of Representatives for more than 35 years, came out in support of Kamala Harris on Thursday.

Serving Michigan's 6th District for decades, Fred Upton was seen as one of the GOP's more moderate lawmakers. He was not a fan of Donald Trump and was one of the few Republicans to vote to convict him during his second impeachment trial.

Upton left office after his term expired in January of 2023, fed up with dealing with today's GOP. And as part of that dissatisfaction, he has now told the Michigan Advance:

"I don’t believe l’ve missed a vote in Michigan in the 52 years I’ve been eligible to vote. And I’ve not been afraid to split my ballot from time to time but have never voted for a Democrat for president, until now. It is often said that, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’ And, let’s face it-the whole world seems on fire today."

The long-time swing-state Republican continued by saying, “I am proud to add my name to that list, as I have already cast my ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris to be our next president of the United State."
