[COMMENTARY] Jimmy Carter Wants to Live Long Enough to Vote for Kamala Harris

Beloved former President Jimmy Carter is 99 and has been receiving hospice care for the last year, but he's still paying attention to politics and has a renewed promise to himself and the country.

He wants to live long enough to make one final, historic vote. “I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” President Carter told his son Chip this week, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

President Carter last voted in May, in the Georgia primary. “He’s not going to miss an election,” his grandson Jason Carter said at the time. “It’s important to him. I mean, that’s the person he is.”

President Carter will turn 100 on October 1st, a milestone for any human, but this one comes with the added accolades of his life of achievements.

While he may be better remembered for what he accomplished after his one term, Jimmy Carter set the standard for bringing a new kind of decency to the Office of the President. His devotion to his late wife, Rosalynn, their family, their faith, and their commitment to helping others has sealed his legacy.

President Carter wouldn't have to wait until November 5th to cast his ballot thanks to early voting in Georgia beginning on October 15th, just two weeks after his birthday. Absentee ballots are sent out in Georgia up to 29 days before the election, and the state doesn't have any laws barring a ballot from being counted if someone dies between the early voting period and Election Day.

Jimmy Carter must be protected and preserved at all costs so he can realize his dream.
