Anderson Cooper to Trump Surrogate: Your Candidate Is Just 'Making Stuff Up'

During a conversation with GOP surrogate Scott Jennings on Friday night, Anderson Cooper called out Donald Trump and Republicans for 'just making stuff up' about Hurricane Helene.

The GOP is running low on opportunities to turn the momentum around in November's presidential race. And Donald Trump has currently figured that the best way is to lie about the federal government's response to Hurricane Helene.

Trump has been repeatedly caught in lies, but that hasn't stopped him from pushing forward. Anderson Cooper discussed the tactic with GOP talking head Scott Jennings on Friday.

After being asked about Trump's rhetoric, Jennings responded, "Donald Trump didn't cause this hurricane. He's not the current president...Joe Biden was at the beach and Kamala Harris was raising money with celebrities when this thing hit."

Cooper fired back, "But he's basically trolling the disaster relief and recovery. He's basically just making stuff up for political reasons, no?"

After some back and forth, Jennings declared, "I mean, it's Donald Trump. He has things to say about the things that happened in this world, and it's October of a presidential election. So I — you know, I don't know what you want. What do you want him to do? Not comment on it?"

Cooper answered, "just not be sleazy, basically."
