With No Sense of Irony or Shame, Gov. Greg Abbott Asks For FEMA’s Help to Stop COVID Spread in Texas

Greg Abbott limits access for ballot return

Like many Republican Governors, Greg Abbott has focused on making vaccines a culture war issue rather than taking measures to keep his constituents safe. He was certainly helped along by other Texas Republicans like Louie Gohmert and Ted Cruz.

COVID is again spreading like wildfire in his state. And with no sense of irony or shame, Abbott is now asking the federal government to step in and help him with the surge.

Reporter Joey Palacios shared a copy of Abbott’s letter, writing, “Texas Governor Greg Abbott is asking the Biden Admin and FEMA for assistance in handling the COVID surge in the state. Bexar County/San Antonio is one of the regions for which Abbott is requesting help.”

Of course, the spread couldn’t have happened without Abbott’s help. Back in April, Abbott tweeted, “Texans shouldn’t be required to show proof of vaccination & reveal private health information just to go about their daily lives. I issued an Executive Order that prohibits government-mandated vaccine passports in Texas. Don’t tread on our personal freedoms.”

And in November, Abbott signed an Executive Order banning any entity in the state from requiring vaccines. He wrote at the time, “The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced.”
