‘With Apologies to Trash, You’re Trash’: Twitter Steamrolls Stefanik For Blaming Jan 6th on Pelosi

Rep. Elise Stefanik (Q-NY) had the audacity to blame House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the January 6th attacks on Congress on Tuesday at the same time the Select Committee was preparing to hear testimony from four Capitol officers who had been injured by the crowd calling out Pelosi’s name as they attempted to hunt her down along with then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Like the “Seditious Four G’s”, Stefanik was doing her duty as a diligent soldier in the Trump Army–one who replaced Rep. Liz Cheney after she was voted out of her Leadership role. Addressing reporters, Stefanik tried to pin the blame for the violent events of the day on Speaker Pelosi, saying, “The American people deserve to know the truth. That Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility, as Speaker of the House, for the tragedy that occurred on January 6th.”

Indicative of the new MAGA revisionist history of January 6th, Stefanik also deemed Speaker Pelosi, “an authoritarian who has broken the people’s house” and claimed Pelosi had refused to seat GOP Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks on the House’s Select Committee because “she doesn’t want a fair or bipartisan investigation; she wants a political one.” Of course, Stefanik was completely ignoring the presence of the two Republicans on the Select Committee, her predecessor Cheney, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

Stefanik’s brazen bid to flip reality on its head would be comical if it were not so dangerous. It should go without saying that the main person who bears responsibility for the violence that occurred on January 6th is Donald Trump, whose lies about the election being stolen are what inspired thousands of militant protesters to gather in Washington. He then directed that very group he convened to head to the Capitol and told them to “show strength.”

After the video of her speech went viral, Stefanik was the recipient of a flood of criticism for a last-ditch attempt to gaslight the country before the hearings began, most of it equivocating her with trash and garbage, earning her the trending hashtag “#TrashyStefanik”.
