“Well, Hitler Did a Lot of Good Things”: Trump Reportedly Praised Hitler During a 2018 Visit to France
People on the far-right have been talking about Adolf Hitler for years. That includes Candace Owens. During a 2019 congressional hearing, Ted Lieu (D-CA), played a 30 second clip of the Conservative activist praising the genocidal maniac.
And not surprisingly, the former president had a similar take. According to a new book from Michael Bender, Trump praised Hitler during a 2018 visit to France.
In an excerpt from Frankly, We Did Win This Election’: The Inside Story Of How Trump Lost, Bender quotes Trump as telling John Kelly, “Well, Hitler did a lot of good things.”
Kelly was reportedly reminding Trump, “which countries were on which side during the conflict and connecting the dots from the first world war to the second world war and all of Hitler’s atrocities.”
Following Trump’s comments, Kelly told him, “the German people would have been better off poor than subjected to the Nazi genocide. You cannot ever say anything supportive of Adolf Hitler. You just can’t.”
This was the same trip where Trump refused to visit a French cemetery where Americans who died in World War I were interred. In addition to not wanting to risk getting his hair wet on a stormy day, the former president also told staffers, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.”
