[WATCH]Statue Of Melania Trump Torched In Her Home Country
Reuters reported on Wednesday that a statue depicting U.S. First Lady, Melania Trump was set ablaze in her home country of Slovenia. The statue was located near her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia and unknown assailants set it on Firth over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the artist responsible for the statue. Brad Downey, a Berlin-based American artist, took down the scorched sculpture after authorities let him know what had happened, he told Reuters.
“I want to know why they did it,” Downey exclaimed about the situation. Downey felt dismayed by the action because he originally created the statue to bring attention to the immigration issue in the U.S. Melania Trump was used for her status as an immigrant who is married to the President of the United States. The immigration issue is heating up in the U.S. as President Trump has issued an order to remove international students who have only online classes this fall. Melania Trump has not commented on the situation.
Downey told Reuters that he filed a complaint with authorities. He is also interested in talking with the vandals if they are apprehended as part of a documentary he is filming. The film would debut in September for an exhibition in Slovenia.
Police spokeswoman Alenka Drenik spoke with Reuters about the case. She said, “The investigation, in this case, has not been completed yet so we cannot reveal details due to the interest of further procedures.”
Melania Trump’s face could not be recognized even before the vandalism but the light blue coat was reminiscent of the same coat worn by Melania when President Trump was first sworn into office.
