WATCH: Young Boy Asks Buttigieg’s Help in Telling World He Is Gay

Pete Buttigieg has had a heck of a month of February. During the first few Democratic primaries, the former South Bend Mayor has separated himself from the party’s pack of contenders. While Bernie Sanders still looks like the favorite, Buttigieg still has a decent shot at the nomination.

In addition to being only 38 years old and running for President, Buttigieg is also the first openly gay candidate. On Saturday night, a young boy asked the Democratic hopeful to help him tell the world he was gay too.

The 9 year-old, Zachary Ro, had submitted his question to Buttigieg in advance. He wrote, “Thank you for being so brave. Would you help me tell the world I’m gay too? I want to be brave like you.”

Buttigieg called Ro to ask the question on stage during a recent Denver Colorado rally. The candidate compliment the boy on his courage in front of, “thousands of people,” and continued, “To see you willing to come to terms with who you are in a room full of a thousand people, thousands of people you’ve never met, that’s really something.”

The former South Bend Mayor recently defended himself from bigoted comments from Rush Limbaugh. Buttigieg said, “Well, I love my husband. I’m faithful to my husband. I’m proud of my husband. “And I’m not going to be lectured on family values from the likes of Rush Limbaugh or anybody who supports Donald J. Trump as the moral as well as political leader of the United States.”
