The employee attempts to escort the woman to a manager to help resolve the issue but the woman decides to protest the situation by sitting in front of the exit and refusing to move. The employee continues to be pilot and asks, “Can I get you a chair? Outside? There’s a place to sit.” The woman replies, “I am an American.” she adds, “I have constitutional rights.” Many would point out that Costco is a private company located on private property and therefore, can enforce its own rules including requiring its patrons to wear a mask during a pandemic.
It is also unsettling to many that there are so many people still not taking the coronavirus seriously. Many see their freedom to not wear a mask as more important than protecting themselves and others from a virus that has killed over 132,000 plus Americans.
