Donald Trump has never been considered to be an honest business person. His charity paid a settlement in New York City after being accused of fraud. His Trump University project was also a scam as he paid out 3 class action suits to defrauded students. And then, there are all the bankruptcies.
But to a certain segment of the country, Trump is still considered trustworthy. And since the election, the president has been asking these people to fund lawsuits to overturn the election results. Much of this money, of course, is going towards paying off campaign debt rather than paying lawyers. This morning, Willie Geist blasted Trump for stealing money from the people who trust him the most.
The Morning Joe panel was discussing a recent Washington Post report that the campaign has raised $150 million since the election. Many of those donating assume the money is going towards legal challenges.
“It’s a hustle, it’s a grift,” said Geist. “So that’s your answer to why does he keep doing this when he knows he has no chance. He continues to lose in court. He’s not even sending out real lawyers to make the case, he’s sending out Rudy Giuliani and the rest of the lawyers in that clown car out to prosecute the case.”
The MSNBC co-host continued, “Plain and simple, this is a hustle. And he’s hustling the very people who stood by him for five years now.
