The GOP is buzzing with talk of a Tucker Carlson presidential run in 2024. The Fox News host has the most-watched show in cable news history and conservatives have taken notice. Many of Trump’s former administrators and conservative commentators see Carlson as the next person to carry on President Trump’s legacy. Many see him as the automatic frontrunner in a Republican primary.
Luke Thompson who served as a Republican strategist for a super PAC supporting Jeb Bush said, “He’s a talented communicator with a massive platform. I think if he runs he’d be formidable.” Although many who hope to be president on a Republican ticket voice support for President Trump. Carlson has gone the extra mile to demonstrate his loyalty. He also seems to actually share the vies of Trump while others disagree with Trump’s views in private.
Carlson is anti-immigrant, expresses economic populism, and is for Trump’s America first isolationist policies. The quality that stands out the most to conservatives is Carlson’s willingness to call Trump out when he is not following his ideology. Another interesting development is that according to those with knowledge of the situation Carlson and Donald Trump Jr. have developed a friendship. This is interesting because there is talk of a presidential run for Don Jr. as well.
Sam Nunberg, a former top political aide to Trump said, “Let me put it this way: If Biden wins and Tucker decided to run, he’d be the nominee. He’s so disgusted with politicians.” POLITICO interviewed sixteen Republicans and they all said that Carlson would be a very viable candidate. Fox News did not comment.
