The AR-15 has been used in a number of high-profile mass shootings. The weapon is so powerful that police officers responding to shootings can feel outgunned. They’re easy to get, too. The Uvalde, Texas shooter purchased one shortly after his 18th birthday.
Despite the fact that there is little reason for private citizens to own the assault weapon, many Republicans still argue that it is their right. During Tuesday’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg called for a ban on AR-15s.
Joy Behar noted, “The cops are scared of the AR-15 I believe. It’s like, they got to go in there but they know the guy is going to like mow them down, they’re scared.”
Tara Setmayer then opined, “I was part of that idea of the slippery slope they’re going to come for everything else, but I think at this point, now when culturally there’s something going on when you have the accessibility to these weapons of war that are mowing people down like this for 18-year-olds there should be some kind of training or get rid of it.”

Goldberg weighed in, “Also, I don’t want to take away all your guns the way you want to take away my right to an abortion. I don’t want all your guns. I want that AR-15. I want it. And we’re going to vote it out.”
