[WATCH] ‘We Are Witnessing the Unraveling’ of Jan 6th ‘Cover-Up’

The new January 6th Select Committee set the tone Tuesday morning for its investigation into the events of the attack on the Capitol and the root causes of the crowd turning violent, with the intent of naming the person who ultimately is responsible for its planning. The often emotional testimony from the two Capitol Police officers and two Metropolitan Police officers was difficult to listen to at times, and rattled some Republicans enough that they began circulating a narrative calling them “actors” while continuing to insist the riot was “just another tourist visit.”

But that false narrative and others like it trying to reframe the insurrection at the Capitol is crumbling, says Constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe.

While the Select Committee has yet to announce its next hearing or any future witnesses it plans to call, Tribe believes “executive privilege won’t be available” to Donald Trump if he’s called to appear and actually shows up to testify.

While many Americans believe Trump should be held accountable, those same also believe he’ll never see the inside of a courtroom. But Tribe believes Trump’s crimes against the United States are egregious enough that he agrees with Select Committee Chair Bennie Thompson’s statement that he’ll call Trump to testify as he sees fit.

As more information about January 6th is revealed, the facade the Republicans have created in trying to rewrite the day’s history is falling apart. Watch the full segment from “The Last Word”, below.
