As of today, more than 790,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. The disease ravaged the country early on, but vaccines were developed after around a year.
Shamefully, hundreds of thousands of Americans have died of the disease when vaccines were free and widely available. Still, Conservative lawmakers have continued to push misformation about the illness.
Take Ron Johnson for example. The Wisconsin senator has long been known as one of America’s dumbest lawmakers. He did nothing to dispel that notion on recently when he claimed that mouthwash could kill COVID-19.
An unearthed video from a town hall showed Johnson telling constituents, “By the way, standard gargle, mouthwash, has been proven to kill the coronavirus. If you get it, you may reduce viral replication. Why not try all these things?”
Republican lawmakers have continued to push mouthwash, Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine as cures for COVID. The issue, even if these things were to somehow work, is that you have to catch COVID-19 first. And that is a dangerous proposition for even the healthiest of Americans.
