The United States Ambassador to the U.N., Linda Thomas-Greenfield, is warning that Russia has a new line of propaganda to excuse their attacks on Ukraine. The notion that Ukraine has a facility manufacturing bioweapons is a lie, she explains, and Russia’s propagandists are trying to utilize the Security Council to promote it.

In the CSPAN clip below, via journalist Aaron Rupar, Thomas-Greenfield explains that not only is it Russian propaganda to claim that Ukraine has bioweapons facilities, but that Vladimir Putin’s propagandists are trying to use the United Nations Security Council to promote it, and that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had warned last month that this could be expected.
UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield: "Russia asked the security council for today's meeting for the sole person of lying and spreading disinformation, and that is exactly what you have heard from the Russian PR this morning … China too has been spreading disinformation." pic.twitter.com/0DpFzaJ9IB

“Last month Secretary Blinken laid out with tragic accuracy what Russia was about to do. He specifically warned that Russia would manufacture a pretext for attack, and even cautioned that Russia would fabricate allegations about chemical or biological weapons to justify its own violent attacks against the Ukrainian people.”
As US News reported yesterday, Russia had requested a meeting with the United Nations Security Council for Friday to discuss their claims that the United States is complicit in maintaining laboratories for biological warfare in Ukraine.
The U.S. has responded by calling this gaslighting, and suggesting that Russia may be setting the stage to excuse deploying a biological or chemical weapon of their own. Russia has continued to misrepresent its invasion of Ukraine, from initially claiming that the forces entering the country were for “peacekeeping,” to denying responsibility for air strikes and civilian deaths.
