Donald Trump seemingly wants to either unload his historically unpopular running mate, JD "Vladimir Futon" Vance, or somehow get rid of his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, before Election Day, or both.
During his sparsely attended Wisconsin rally on Saturday, Trump called for “modifying” the 25th Amendment to allow for the "removal of a vice president" who “lies or engages in a conspiracy to cover up the incapacity of the president,” which makes no sense.
Trump also wants dual revenge for being impeached twice before his one term ended while getting back at anyone who invoked the 25th Amendment to remove him from office after the January 6th Capitol insurrection.
“If you do that with a cover-up of the president of the United States, it’s grounds for impeachment immediately and removal from office, because that’s what they did,” Trump rambled, without explaining who "they" are.
The 25th Amendment clarifies that the vice president becomes president if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office by impeachment. It also establishes the procedure for filling a vacancy in the office of the vice president. But it doesn't address the forcible removal of a vice president. Ratifying a constitutional amendment requires the support of three-fourths of US states.
Impeachment is a completely separate process that wouldn’t require amending the Constitution. Instead, it requires a simple majority vote in the House to adopt articles of impeachment and then a two-thirds vote in the Senate to convict.
Trump also accused Vice President Harris of "covering up" President Joe Biden's "mental health decline," as every accusation is a confession.
