Donald Trump promised a crowd in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday that he would end sanctuary cities first in their state, then across the country, if he were ever to get back into office.
Sanctuary cities are defined as "a municipality that limits or denies its cooperation with the national government in enforcing immigration law. A city's council and mayor will usually declare itself a sanctuary city and subsequently enact measures and policies that are welcoming and favorable to migrants."
And that mayor is always a Democrat, so Republicans really hate the idea.
“As soon as I take office, we will immediately surge federal law enforcement to every city that is failing, which is a lot of them, to turn over criminal aliens," Trump yelled, "and we will hunt down, capture every single gang member, drug dealer, rapist, murderer, and migrant criminal that is being illegally harbored."
“I will ask Congress to pass a law outlawing sanctuary cities nationwide, and we demand the full weight of the federal government on any jurisdiction that refuses to cooperate with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement),” he continued.
Trump's incendiary remarks came amid his continued refusal to admit he's been lying about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, along with his unpopular running mate, JD Vance.
Trump also made up an excuse on the spot for not accepting Vice President Kamala Harris' challenge to a debate rematch on CNN next month. "I would love to," he lied, "but it's too late now. The ballots are out."
