WATCH: "Trump Is Absolutely Spiraling" Says Former GOP Rep

A lively panel discussion on MSNBC's "The Weekend" saw two Republicans questioning why anyone believes anything coming from the GOP's presidential nominee.

Former Republican National Convention (RNC) Chair Michael Steele and former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh both called out a claim from Donald Trump's campaign staff that they'd been "hacked," blaming the breach on Iran.

It's not surprising that most people didn't trust the story because it originated from Trump's campaign. Steele told his co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend that it's his staff's own fault that the public doesn't trust them.

Steele remarked that Trump campaign spokesperson, Stephen Cheung, blamed a Microsoft report released Friday, which said that "an Iranian group sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign," Steele said.

"We should be clear that Microsoft did not identify the campaign that was targeted, and NBC News has not been able to verify that Iran was behind the hack for the Trump campaign," Steele continued.

Walsh agreed with Steele's assessment. "'Claimed'," he sneered. "The Trump administration 'claimed' they were hacked. Everyone's initial reaction should be, 'we can't believe him, we can't believe that.' And that is their fault, Symone. You can't believe anything that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth. This is serious business, but I want it verified first."

Sanders-Townsend noted, "I just want to...be clear — we know that some anonymous person, named Robert, was peddling internal information from the Trump campaign. So, while we have not — as NBC News hasn't been able to independently verify that it was, in fact, Iran — we do know that somehow some internal documents got out."

The panel also discussed watching the Trump campaign crash and burn as it watches the Harris-Walz campaign gain steam.
