[WATCH] Trump Dodges Tough Questions During Press Briefing On Jobs
President Donald Trump held a surprise press briefing about jobs on Thursday. Trump did not take any questions from the press during the briefing. Trump took the time to exclaim that the economy was roaring back after the lockdown. Trump expressed pride in the new jobs numbers despite an uptick in coronavirus cases in many states.
Trump stated to the reports gathered, “Today’s announcement proves that our economy is roaring back. It’s coming back extremely strong.” Trump made the announcement merely an hour following the Labor Department’s announcement that 4.8 million jobs were added to the economy in June. It also said that unemployment had lowered to 11.1 percent. Trump concluded the briefing by saying, “So I want to thank everybody for being here today. These are historic numbers in a time that a lot of people would have wilted. They would have wilted. But we didn’t wilt, and our country didn’t wilt. And I’m very honored to be your president. Thank you very much.”
After concluding his remarks, Trump turned the podium over to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Larry Kudlow. Many point out that Trump is avoiding tough questions during a chaotic time. The coronavirus is seeing a resurgence in many states that rushed to reopen at the behest of Trump. Many, including, Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, are regretting reopening. In the eyes of many Trump will not be able to avoid the questions for long. Trump reiterated during an interview with Fox News that he believes that the disease “at some point … going to sort of just disappear.”
