WATCH: Truck Backs Through Russian Embassy Gates In Ireland; Russia Complains That Guards Stood Idle

Russia is lobbing accusations at Ireland after an incident at the Russian embassy. Video was captured of a truck — apparently a delivery truck for church supplies — backing neatly through the gate of the embassy in Dublin. Now Russian embassy officials say that the country is in violation of the Vienna Convention, because guards didn’t prevent the damage.

You can see the clip below, via RTÉ News. The truck begins backing up towards the gate, as though perhaps to turn, then crashes right through the gate of the Russian Embassy in Dublin, as onlookers call out in apparent astonishment.

The Kyiv Independent reports that one individual has been arrested, but was able to make a statement as he was led away, saying that he wants the Russian Ambassador, Yury Filatov, and his colleagues, out of Ireland.

According to Irish Times, that driver is Desmond Wisley, of Desmond Wisley Ecclesiastical Supplies, which sells and delivers altar cloths, communion wafers, and related products. The business name is also identifiable on the side of the truck in some shots.

Before his arrest, he’s said to have exited the truck and handed out photos of atrocities committed in the invasion of Ukraine, and declared, “I just done this to create a safe corridor for the Russian ambassador to leave Ireland.”

Virgin Media News reporter Gavan Reilly adds further that the embassy has contacted Ireland’s Foreign Ministry, complaining that this is a violation of Vienna Convention rules that require the country to protect the embassy from damage, and demanding protection for embassy staff and their family members.
