[WATCH] Texas Man Fires Gun At Black Teens
A man from Houston Texas was taken into custody after he allegedly fired a gun at two black teens after he started a confrontation over a Black Lives Matter T-shirt. ABC 13 Eyewitness News reported that the 69-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to investigators, Santiago Fernandez confronted the two teens as they left a corner store to go home.
One of the victims said to ABC 13, “He asked us if we believed in Black Lives Matter… he kept on harassing us and he told us we don’t belong in the neighborhood.” The conversation heated up and led to Fernandez following the two teens to their home and eventually firing his gun at them.
Racial tensions have been at an all-time high since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. His death sparked nationwide protests that are still happening across the nation. Black Lives Matter is seen in a negative light by many on the right who often refer to them as terrorists. President Donald Trump recently called the movement a “symbol of hate.” BLM hopes to end racial discrimination and police brutality.
Many would point out that incidents like this one show why BLM is needed as more racist incidents occur. It does not seem as if the trouble will stop anytime soon. Many see Trump as the ring leader of the nationwide divide but many point to him as only a symptom. We will have to see if anything changes after November.
