[WATCH] Swalwell Says McCarthy Is ‘Too Much Of a Weasel’ to Appear Before Jan 6th Committee

Now that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced the formation of an official January 6th Committee, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA) told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday’s edition of “Deadline: White House” that he doesn’t expect Senate Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Q-CA) to cooperate with the January 6th Special Select Committee when the time comes.

Swalwell, the author of the book “Endgame” about the first Trump impeachment, referred to McCarthy as a “weasel” and explained just why he thinks “Kremlin Kevin” would duck a subpoena to appear before the special committee.

Rep. Swalwell spoke to McCarthy’s unwillingness to meet with Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, who was injured in the line of duty as he fought to protect Congress from the rioters who had breached the Capitol on January 6th. Several Congressional Republicans have also either refused to meet with Fanone, who also suffered a mild heart attack as a result of his injuries, or have ignored his requests completely. Swalwell, who is in regular contact with Fanone, knows all too well just how hard the fallen officer has tried to get members of the GOP to simply listen to his account of what happened on the day they want to forget ever happened.

“He (Fanone) said it feels like Groundhog Day because he just wants to meet with Kevin McCarthy,” Rep. Swalwell told Nicolle Wallace. “He thinks it would be easier to meet with him than the 21 individual meetings he would have to take with the people who voted against giving police a gold medal. He thought McCarthy is the leader of the party. If he could convey to him what happened that day maybe McCarthy could talk every member into supporting a gold medal to honor those officers. this is not about politics. Officer Fanone and so many others put their lives in front of ours so Kevin McCarthy could go to a secure, safe location. We owe it to them to look them in the eye and give them our thanks.”

Swalwell’s place on the January 6th Committee is probably a lock thanks to him never giving up on anything, ever.

Wallace asked Swalwell what he anticipates McCarthy will do if he is subpoenaed to appear before the select committee.
