WATCH: Stephen Colbert Has Come Up With a New State Motto For Florida

The delta variant is now here. While all states are seeing a rise in COVID cases, the states with Republican governors are doing the worst. And no state is doing worse than Florida.

Governor Ron DeSantis, though, doesn’t seem to care. The Republican lawmaker is more focused on pushing school administrators who are trying to keep children safe and hawking very expensive treatments for COVID.

And while cases are rising and ICU’s are filling up, people are still going on family vacations to the sunshine state. Stephen Colbert discussed the issue during his Thursday night monologue.

The late show host noted that state health officials are blaming the COVID surge on, “unabated tourism and a disregard for basic health precautions.” He continued, “Coincidentally, that’s also Florida’s state motto. Sounds better in Latin.”

Colbert even came up with a new motto for the state, “Don’t go to Florida.”

DeSantis has a different take on the large number of tourists who are still visiting the state. He put out a press release yesterday, bragging, “Florida continues to serve as an example for the country that when you reject lockdowns and unnecessary mandates, your economy will thrive.”
