Saturday Night Live has now stepped in to give their take on the Matt Gaetz scandal. Last night the show opened with a Pete Davidson portrayed Gaetz appearing on Britney Spears’ talk show.
Also appearing as guests on the show were Lil’ Nas X and Pepe Le Pew. Spears, played by Chloe Fineman, introduced Gaetz by calling his scandal, “so bizarre, so incredibly Florida that I need to get it straight. You were dating a 17 year-old and brought her across state lines.” The congressman could only respond, “allegedly.”
Spears responded to Gaetz’s denial by saying, “I don’t know Matt, I think Ican spot a teen predator when I see one. After all, I was on The Mickey Mouse Club.”
The skit also addressed the fact that the Florida congressman has received very little support from his fellow Republicans. “That’s ridiculous,” Davidson-Gaetz said, “people are just targeting me because I defended Donald Trump.” Fineman-Spears replied, “And what has Trump said in your defense?” A bemused Gaetz responded, “Giggity Squat.”
The segment closed with the host asking the congressman if he thinks the scandal will hurt him in future elections. “Weirdly,” Gaetz responded, “in my district, it might help.”
