[WATCH] Senate Judiciary Committee to Hold Ketanji Brown Confirmation Vote on Monday

Despite deliberately obtuse obstruction from some prominent Republicans who should instead be ducking the white-hot spotlight, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is likely to be the first Black woman in history confirmed to the Supreme Court when the Senate Judiciary Committee meets on Monday to hold their official vote.

Judge Jackson has the Democratic majority behind her, which includes Vice President Kamala Harris, and has also gained Republican support from the usually non-committal Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. She was also confirmed to her previous positions by some of the very same Republicans who are now putting on quite a display of their upcoming “No” votes that will eventually come back to haunt them in November, most notably Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who seemed to think he was giving testimony from the secret speakeasy bar underneath his bedroom closet. Graham is the only Republican member of the Committee who voted to confirm Judge Jackson to a federal appeals court in Washington last year, but he sure pulled out all the stops on the Senate floor on Thursday when he announced that he will vote against her confirmation “this time.”

Not shown: the bourbon bottle Lindsey Graham calls “his special juice”

Why the change of heart, Linds? “My decision is based upon her record of judicial activism, flawed sentencing methodology regarding child pornography cases, and a belief that Judge Jackson will not be deterred by the plain meaning of the law when it comes to liberal causes,” Graham said on the floor. Translation from compromised Trump lapdog to English: “I’m a compromised Trump lapdog and now I also have to be a big racist in public to keep him happy.” (translation mine, thanks First Amendment!)

MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross led a panel discussion on Saturday’s “The Cross Connection” about the historic nomination while also managing to burn the Republicans to a fine crisp. Let’s watch!
