WATCH: Sean Hannity is Giddy After African American Athlete Fails to Medal

There is a long tradition of athletes using the Olympics to make statements about the larger world. The first instance of this was in 1968 when Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists on the medal podium. One could have only imagined how Fox News would have reacted if it existed back then.

Following in the footsteps of Carlos an Smith is Gwen Berry, who competes in the hammer throw. Berry demonstrated during the Olympic trials this year, though she said she was set up when the anthem played at an unusual time.

Still, any kind of demonstration towards racial justice is sure to raise the ire of Fox News. So when Berry failed to medal at this year’s games, Sean Hannity was sure to celebrate.

The Fox host told viewers:

“Yet another Olympic athlete who clearly doesn’t seem to love the country she’s representing fell flat in the Olympics this week as track and field participant Gwen Berry failed to medal in the hammer throw. Now following that flag stunt during the Olympic trials in June. Now thankfully there are other inspirational American success stories to cover like wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock won gold in Tokyo. She delivered a message about the greatness of America and how much she loves living in this great country. Made me proud.”
