WATCH: Scarborough Rips ‘Idiot’ Mark Meadows For Pushing Election Lies to DOJ
The Department of Justice has always been meant to operate independently. Donald Trump, though, had no interest in operating in that way. The former president installed loyalist William Barr at the head of the DOJ and attempted to use the department like his own private force.
And the Trump administration expected the DOJ to operate hand in hand with them. So it was no surprise this weekend when it was revealed that Mark Meadows had urged the department to investigate Conservative election lies. Joe Scarborough took Meadows to task for these efforts during his Monday morning show.
The Morning Joe host began, “There was a disconnect with reality, of course, obviously, inside the White House, a huge disconnect. And my god, if American democracy was not hanging by a thread, it would be pretty funny that an idiot chief of staff chief of staff would be pushing ‘Italygate,’ that a man from Italy came over to change enough ballots to elect a president.”
Scarborough continued, “even Allen West mocked people that believed in Italygate,” he added. “I’m sorry for laughing at the beginning of this question, because it really was so damned dangerous that these people were actually controlling the lever of powers in the last several months of the Trump administration.”
