WATCH: Samantha Bee Begs Poor Polling Dems to Run for Senate

The Democratic nominee field is overwhelmingly crowded with over 20 candidates seeking the opportunity to run against Donald Trump. Obviously, only one of those candidates will win and the others will have to take on other jobs. A number of candidates have fallen below the 1% polling threshold and cannot participate in in the party’s first debate.

Two Democratic candidates, John Hickenlooper and Steve Bullock are popular Governors from states that can go either way during the 2020 elections. Television host Samantha Bee dedicated a recent segment of her show to urging both of those men to run for Senate seats instead.

Bullock, whose second term as Montana’s Governor will end in 2020, has shown a consistent ability to win in the red-state. In 2016 he defeated his opponent Greg Gianforte by a margin of 4%. In that same year, Donald Trump carried the state of Montana, crushing Hillary Clinton by over 20%.

While Colorado is turning more blue, the state is still deeply competitive. Like Bullock, former Governor, John Hickenlooper, was able to win two elections in the state. His terms saw both the legalization of Marijuana in Colorado as well as significant economic growth. In the last election, which took place in 2014, Hickenlooper defeated Bob Beauprez by 4%.

Bee said the current political environment is toxic, “But that is exactly why we need good Democratic candidates for Senate.” The Full Frontal host continued, “Winning the presidency would be great. But real change is impossible unless the Senate changes hands, too.”
